Dane DeHaan Gets The World’s Worst Spa Treatment In The ‘A Cure For Wellness’ Trailer

Eel bath? No thanks

by Ben Barna

After a string of box office successes with the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, director Gore Verbinski suffered a massive misfire with 2013’s The Lone Ranger. So for his next trick, the filmmaker, who also brought us The Ring, is scaling back to tell what looks like another tale of psychological horror. A Cure For Wellness stars Dane DeHaan and Mia Goth in a story that the movie’s gorgeous first trailer, which is set to a haunting version of The Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated,” doesn’t entirely make clear. What we get is DeHaan’s character visiting a remote mountain retreat to presumably find a cure for whatever ails him. Once there, he undergoes some kind of experimental treatment that involves a water tank, some eels, and ballroom dancing. It turns out that’s only kind of what it’s about. Here’s the official synopsis:

An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious ‘wellness center’ at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure.

So there you go. Never trust a spa that submerges you in a tank filled with eels. That much is clear.

A Cure For Wellness hits theaters on February 17, and you can watch the trailer above.
