Alessia Cara Sings An Amazing Cover of ‘Bad Blood’
she even impresses taylor herself
BBC Radio 1 is an absolute gem for any music lover. A number of talented artists pass through and often cover other performers' songs—usually giving them a new and refreshing spin, as CHVRCHES did back in February for Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me A River." This time, another artist stunned with a cover of a mainstream pop song, and it's 18-year-old singer-songwriter Alessia Cara.
Cara recently garnered positive attention for her debut single "Here," which is basically the creative introvert's anthem. Now, she's solidified her status as artist-to-watch with her amazing cover of Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood." She puts a silky R&B spin on the pop song, even reworking Kendrick Lamar's difficult rap verses in her own style. The song is wonderfully stripped down to a simple piano accompaniment and Cara's acoustic guitar, rightly placing the spotlight on her impressive vocals.
Following Cara's performance, Swift herself tweeted a shout-out to the young singer, telling her she is "AMAZING," which led to an adorable exchange in which the two performers basically fangirl over one another. So Cara is now not only NYLON-approved, but also Taylor Swift-approved as well.
