Oh Look, Brad Pitt Has A Netflix Movie Now, Too

Watch the trailer for ‘War Machine’

Netflix is straight clowning on fools. Days after debuting the trailer for their new movie starring Will Smith, the streaming service has just premiered a trailer for another new movie starring none other than Brad Pitt. The movie is called War Machine, and it’s a satirical look at the war in Afghanistan, with Pitt playing a supremely confident general named Glenn McMahon, who is based on real-life commander Stanley McChrystal.

McChrystal was the subject of The Operators, a book by the late Michael Hastings which War Machine is based on. That book depicted an unhinged U.S. military under McChrystal’s command, and Hastings was there “as McChrystal and his staff let off steam, partying and openly bashing the Obama administration.” The book spawned an article in Rolling Stone that led to McChrystal’s downfall.

Pitt, who is bringing back the same generic soldier cadence he brought to his roles in Inglorious Basterds and Fury, leads a huge cast that includes Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall, Topher Grace, Will Poulter, Lakeith Stanfield, Emory Cohen, John Magaro, R.J. Cyler, Alan Ruck, and Scoot McNairy. To balance all of that testosterone is Tilda Swinton, who’s appearing in her second Netflix trailer in as many days. Like we said, Netflix is straight clowning on fools.

War Machine will be on your television sets on May 26.
