This week, Charli XCX dropped a major bomb on us when she announced that she's starting her own experimental pop label called Vroom Vroom Recordings. Today, the singer-songwriter shared the debut Vroom Vroom EP ahead of its official label release on March 25. In addition to creating the record label, Charli also landed a Beats 1 radio show which starts today. Casual, we know.
"Vroom Vroom Recordings is my new, experimental pop label and it will combine my love for bubblegum pop with mystery and darkness," Charli said in a press release. "The artists coming up through it will be sharp, potent, deadly, and ultimately, will leave their mark on pop music."
The project was produced by SOPHIE and it's bursting with pop gems that will become your party anthems. In all honesty, Charli is probably the only major artist who could take a ride on PC Music's engine without sounding like she's trying too hard. Hannah Diamond is also featured on one of the tracks, so you know this EP is gold.
"What we create together speaks for itself," Charli added. "Sometimes we get aggressive, sometimes we get beautiful; he pushes me and I push him. I'm making beautiful party songs right now and this is just the start. The album goes to other places and I can't wait for people to hear it. I feel the most creative I have in a long time and I couldn't be more excited for the next chapter."
Last year, we were worried that Charli's fire might be burning out because of how exhausted she was from touring—when she had to cancel the remainder of her tour with Bleachers, angels everywhere were concerned. We're relieved to see that the sparks are very much still there and that Charli is ready to light up the stereo.
