If you've been waiting for a blatantly summer song, well, Demi Lovato just dropped a really good one. While the aptly named "Cool for the Summer" may be filled with some straight-out-of-your-middle-school-diary lyrics ("Don't tell your mother / Kiss one another / Die for each other / We're cool for the summer"), the track's boisterous, cinematic instrumentals and synth beat somewhat distract from them. Produced and written by Max Martin, Ali Payami, Alexander Erik Kronlund and Savan Kotecha, the song is pure pop, marking a blatant transition from Lovato's previous ballad-filled albums.
