This New Empress Of Collab Is A Moody Masterpiece

give “reformer” a spin

Everything that Empress Of does leaves us completely entranced and her latest collaboration with Darkstar is no exception. The singer-songwriter has been relatively quiet since she unveiled her last batch of music videos, but she kept our hearts content with her cover of The Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face." On Darkstar's single "Reformer," Empress Of's delicate vocals take the lead, as the accompanying string instruments intertwine with the electronic production elements.

“Lorely (Empress Of) came over to our studio, Konk, in North London at the end of summer, where we played through sketches we had,” said Darkstar's James Young in the press release. "Lorely played a load of her stuff and we’d given her a beat that we'd been playing in some sets and wanted to do something with. She took it to the 4AD studio the next day and laid the top line on it. We got around to finishing it last month and I think she killed it. She's one of the most capable artists I've been in a studio with and a great person to be in that environment with.”

"Reformer" is featured on the British duo's upcoming self-titled EP which is due out this spring via Warp Records. Listen to the spellbinding single, below.
