Erykah Badu hosted the Soul Train Awards this weekend, and somewhat oddly, took the opportunity to bang on Iggy Azalea, who was not in attendance and who has largely remained out of the public eye after several controversies damaged her public image.
During her opening monologue, Badu said she was banning all rap for the evening, because the night was about soul music. She then pretends to receive phone calls from Andre 3000 and Young Thug, and bans them from attending the ceremony. Then she gets a fake call from Azalea and—you can see where this is going—tells her, "No no no, you can come, 'cause what you're doing is definitely not rap."
The audience reacted with mostly stunned laughter and did-she-really-go-there looks, but questioning the authenticity of Azalea's brand of hip-hop is actually pretty played, and seems especially mean-spirited, given that Azalea pretty much acknowledged her music was no longer viable when she canceled her entire tour. Anyway, watch the clip above.
