As if LOVE is trying extra-hard to fill the void left when Pirelli decided to go in a more sophisticated and demure new direction, the mag just released a video for Day 2 of its advent calendar campaign that features none other than supermodel and brand-new face of Stuart Weitzman Gigi Hadid doing none other than dancing around in lingerie. Yesterday, Kendall Jenner at least got weird for her video, dressing up as a hammerhead shark, which felt kind of goofy and off-kilter. But this clip has nothing weird about it, besides low-production value, which was probably the point. Other than that, it's a masterclass in objectification.
It comes on the heels of Hadid's cover story for British Vogue, where she talks about loving her body in the wake of online bullying for her curviness compared to other models. "Yeah, I'm an athletic person," she says. "But I love my body because I know what it's been through to be what it is, and honestly I'm not going to change for someone that is depressed about their life. The Victoria's Secret Angels aren't going anywhere; I'm not going anywhere; plus-sized models aren't going anywhere."
Yes, we live in a world where Gigi Hadid, who just walked the runway at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, is defending her body. Weird.
