Joss Whedon Shows Us What A World Without Planned Parenthood Would Look Like
Hint: very bleak
Despite the Trump administration’s plans, a lot of people are still fighting for Planned Parenthood—and the reproductive rights of women in general. Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s creator, Joss Whedon, is one of them.
In a recently released short film, titled "Unlocked," the director shows us what life would be like if three women and their families didn’t have access to birth control, cancer and STD screenings, and sex education. All things Planned Parenthood fruitfully provides. One scene shows a woman suffering from breast cancer. In another, a teenager comes to terms with her unplanned pregnancy. In the third, a high-school student watches as her friend deals with being exposed to an STD.
"For so many, there’s an obvious tipping point between hope and despair," Whedon said in a statement. "Planned Parenthood is a beacon of hope, and anyone trying to shut it down is committing an act of evil. It’s not just inhumane — it’s inhuman. I just wanted to remind those of us with some humanity still stirring how much is at stake.”
The message comes across loud and clear. Watch for yourself above.
