If this year teaches you anything, it should be that there is room for more than one queen in a castle. Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj have finally collaborated on a track together called "Swish Swish," and it's about to become your new "Bye, hater" anthem.
"A tiger/ Don’t lose no sleep/ Don’t need opinions/ From a shellfish or a sheep," Perry sings in the opening verse. "Don’t you come for me/ No, not today."
The production sort of sounds like the lovechild of Big Sean's "Dance (A$$)" and Drake's "The Motto," but we'd be lying if we said the beat wasn't popping off. Minaj is absolutely ruthless when she comes in toward the end talking about how "silly rap beefs just get me more checks" and "I only fuck with Queens."
The artwork for the single shows Perry's blinged-out hand holding receipts from a place called "Karma Coffee & Tea." (Kiss the ring, bish!) These ladies are not here to play your games, pull up if you dare. RIP to all who come for them because they have the receipts on deck.
As expected, many people are labeling this track as Perry's official diss track to Taylor Swift, but she previously insisted that "there is no one thing that’s calling out any one person." In that same interview with Entertainment Weekly, the "courtside killer queen" said that her forthcoming album is about her "being seen and heard," so do her a favor and listen up.
All of that said, Perry would want us to remember that "when women come together and they decide to unite, this world is going to be a better place." She also warned us not to "mistake kindness for weakness and don’t come for me." ("Anyone. Anyone. Anyone. Anyone.")
Witness is slated to drop on June 9 via Capitol Records. In the meantime, bump this bop right now.
