Watch Kehlani Give A Motivational Speech About Mental Illness
“Please don’t try it. Don’t do it.”
It was only about two months ago when Kehlani's name was making headlines after she was hospitalized following a suicide attempt. The Grammy-nominated singer has since been in recovery mode and using music as a source of inspiration. During one of her most recent shows, Kehlani took a brief moment to speak to her fans about mental health issues and suicide prevention.
"[Suicide and depression are] something that so many young people are dealing with," she said. "And so many young people slip under the rug. Please don't try it. Don't do it."
From there, Kehlani announced that she will be working with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, and continue to advocate for open forums about mental health. We are so proud of Kehlani for using her celebrity platform to raise awareness for something as important as this and applaud her for coming forward about the issues that she personally struggles with.
"If you have a friend and they're scaring you a little, just love them. Just hug them, and love them up, and tell 'em that it's good, okay," she added. "And from me to you, you are worth it, you are perfect, you need to be here, you are meant to be here."
