Lana Del Rey Is Cooking Something For The Kids In New Album Teaser
The Weeknd is in the mix
Well, pour me some cognac and flick my eyeliner out to my temple! Lana Del Rey has officially announced her fifth album, Lust For Life.
Quite honestly, this video teaser felt like a fake at first. The tiny thumbnail that peered out from the sidebar of the new Valerian trailer was tempting, yes, because the rumors surrounding the album are deafening. But there are fake Lana Del Rey Vevo accounts that dupe viewers into watching fan-made clips spreading fake news, and resistance is imperative. But lo', this is real. Lust For Life is "coming soon."
The self-proclaimed sad girl really goes hard in the retro Hollywood paint here, peppering in her newfound taste for the cosmos, witchery, and Twilight Zone aesthetics. Reciting some manifesto for the album, Del Rey opines on her creative process saying, "Each morning, I have the luxury of asking myself, 'What shall I cook up for the kids today? Something with spice? Something with a little bitterness but is ultimately sweet? Or should I take the day off and turn down the fire and just take a moment to send my love to them over the ether?" (It should be noted that ingredients float into her music pot, including The Weeknd's XO symbol, which more or less confirms they're working together again.)
This album, like the chorus for her first single "Video Games" says, is all for us. Everything Del Rey has done has been. It's only now, "when the world is in such a tumultuous period," that she appears to be truly paying it forward. As the kids would say, "Mom."
