The New Trailer For “The Martian” Just Blew Us Away

The first trailer for the upcoming the Ridley Scott space-travel epic The Martian starring Matt Damon had the little hairs on our arms standing straight up. The second one has them dancing.

Again, we’ve got Damon trapped on the red planet, attempting to “science the shit” out of things in a bid to survive and return home to Earth. Again, we’ve got Jessica Chastain helming a rogue mission to rescue him. What this new trailer adds is a sense of levity to the proceedings—Damon's astronaut is quite the jokester—as well as a more detailed look at what’s happening down on Earth as NASA, the media, and Kristen Wiig react to finding out that Damon’s astronaut is trapped some 140 million miles away.

The trailer also features appearances from Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Michael Peña, multiple explosions, and a Mars rover. The Martian hits theaters October 2 and, honestly, we couldn’t be more psyched about it.
