Sunday Sizzle: Lion Babe Knows How To Make It Feel Like An “Endless Summer”

Take notes from these summer babies

by Sydney Gore

When summertime finally rolls around, nothing is more fun than the combo of good food, good music, and good company. So every weekend, we’re bringing you BBQ must-haves from the hands of our favorite artists so you can get a real taste of what their lives are actually like. Get your hands on the Sunday Sizzle while it’s hot.

Jillian Hervey and Lucas Goodman like to think of themselves as summer babies. As Lion Babe, the New York-based duo pumps up the volume with neo soul leaning tunes that roll with the airwaves. Their newly released Sun Joint mixtape is ideal for any summer activity, but it perfectly sets the mood for a raging cookout. If anyone knows how to pull off a successful BBQ, it's these two.

"I think one of my favorite [dishes] is my grandma’s baked beans," says Hervey. "They’re classic and one of a kind, with barbecue sauce and lots of stuff like sausage and mushrooms in them. Yummy stuff. They’re amazing and they go with everything. Every time I see her, I try to make her have it even when it’s not a barbecue. I’m like, 'Can we have those beans?'"

Goodman on the other hand leans toward a grilled sausage like kielbasa. And if you're feeling fancy, the neo-soul duo recommends dropping some seafood on the coals like lobster. (Raw oysters are also a must-have.)

As for the tunes? Goodman didn't hesitate to recommend 2Pac's “I Get Around," while Hervey is down for James Brown's “Doing It to Death."
