Rihanna Is Checking Into ‘Bates Motel’ As Marion Crane
Hitchcock would be proud
Rihanna is about to come face to face with a real psycho. The singer will take on the iconic role of Marion Crane in the final season of A&E's Bates Motel, producers announced Friday. If you haven't seen Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, the seminal film on which the show is based, this is us issuing an official spoiler alert. Crane of course, was made famous by Janet Leigh and a shower scene that remains one of the most chilling sequences ever captured on film. Producers have yet to confirm whether or not they plan on recreating the iconic scene with Rihanna, but it's hard to believe they would pass up such a juicy opportunity.
Rihanna meanwhile, has professed her love for the show, which helped convince producers that they had a shot at landing the pop star, who hasn't had a major acting role since 2012's Battleship. "We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way," executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin said in a statement released after the news was announced at Comic-Con. "We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate."
Rihanna also released a short video confirming the announcement, and despite her character's dreadful fate, she seems pretty darn excited. Watch below.
