After a three-video trilogy with the precocious Maddie Ziegler, Sia has a new, unexpected music video star: Heidi Klum. And let's just say that this is not what we would have ever expected from the typically innovative, forward-thinking artist.
The video establishes a romance between Klum and her co-star, Game of Thrones actor Pedro Pascal, as they literally frolic through a wide open field and share several intimate moments between the sheets. Klum appears wearing lingerie from her own Heidi Klum Intimates collection (tags visible), giving the whole video a very marketed feel—something that definitely appealed to the supermodel when she signed on for the project. "Sia is one of those incredible artists who puts so much passion into her work, and I am thrilled to be part of a music video set to her song 'Fire Meet Gasoline,'" she said. "I love great collaborations and to be given the opportunity to appear in the video while wearing my Heidi Klum Intimates collection, is definitely up there." It would appear then, that artistry was not the only concern here.
The song has the same heartbreaking, fierce energy that we've heard in other tracks from Sia's latest album, 1000 Forms of Fear, but in comparison to her last few bizarre releases, the video falls flat, relying on literal visualizations of the lyrics and not-so discreet product placement. Celebrity cameos don't always doom music videos (just look at how original the Shia LaBeouf-starring video for "Elastic Heart" turned out to be), but Klum's appearance here turns Sia's poignant track into any other faux passionate lingerie ad.
