Song Premiere: Russian Red “Michael P”
melancholic dream pop at its best.
After moving to California and releasing her new album Agent Cooper in February, hit Spanish singer Russian Red—whose real name is Lourdes Hernández—has seriously begun to turn heads in the American music scene. With the help of Joe Chiccarelli—the acclaimed producer of acts such as The White Stripes, Beck, and The Shins—and other production heavyweights, Russian Red’s sound is a steady balance of dreamy pop and soulful vocal stylings.
Russian Red’s new single “Michael P” is a sultry yet sensitive tune played perfectly against a home-video style and sun-saturated backdrop. The video offers a tribute to her new Los Angeles home, and the song boasts a beautiful tambourine backed chorus that allows Russian Red to enchant the listener with the voice that made her such a star in Spain. We dare you not to close your eyes and sway, perhaps while holding a daisy. Near, the end of the song we are treated to a fantastic bass riff that completes the sweet sorrowful lyricism and melody of the single. With hints of Lorde, El Perro Del Mar, and Lissie, Russian Red delivers wonderfully seductive and guitar-riddled pop.
“Michael P” and the rest of Agent Cooper is currently available for download on iTunes. Russian Red is making her way across the country in the coming weeks: for tour dates check out www.russianred.es.
