The First ‘Wonder Woman’ Trailer Is What Girl Power’s All About

Let’s hear it for the ladies

The first official trailer for the upcoming Wonder Woman film is finally here. Set in World War I, actress Gal Gadot plays Diana of Themysicra, a superhero unsure whether or not she wants to save the world. “The closer you get, the more you see the great darkness within,” she reflects. Alas, when destiny calls, you gear up and come running. Gadot teams up with Chris Pine to put a stop to the “war to end all wars.”

The origin story will also feature Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, and Lucy Davis. Fun fact (or, not so fun, depending on how you look at it): This will be the first female-led comic book franchise film since 2005 when Jennifer Garner played Elektra. Gadot touched on the importance of the movie in an interview with EW, stating:

I feel that I’ve got the opportunity to set a great role model for girls to look up to a strong, active, compassionate, loving, positive woman and I think it’s so important. It’s about time that somebody will do that and I’m very privileged and honored to be the one.

The movie hits theaters June 2. Watch the trailer above.
