alexa chung ditches the cat-eye, still looks stunning

it’s all about the lip.

by Gabrielle Korn

If the first thing you think when you hear "cat-eye" is "Alexa Chung," you might want to sit down. The reigning queen of eyeliner inspiration rolled up to last night's British Fashion Awards with makeup that was all about the lip—no flick.

"We decided on a softer eye than normal," says celebrity makeup artist Liz Pugh, who created the look. "We know and love the Alexa Kitten Flick, but wanted to do something different." So, instead of doing the usual, Pugh created "Bambi" lashes and then focused on glowing skin and a bright lip: "A real pillar box red," she describes.

This holiday-perfect makeup situation is refreshingly easy to recreate. Get your face glowing with skin care, rather than makeup, for an authentically radiant finish. Pugh used serums and moisturizers, and just a little bit of concealer where needed. She defined Alexa's eyes with a smudgy chocolate eyeliner and finished the look with a gel liner close to the lash line, "So close that it became part of the lashes to accentuate the eyes without looking like liner."

"The lashes were a crucial part of this look, so I curled them as always and then applied Eyeko Eye Do Mascara to the top and bottom." She adds that this color is the blackest black, and stays put all night. Pugh also added false lashes to the corners of Alexa's eyes for extra oomph.

As for that lip? It's NARS in Jungle Red. We know, we're buying it right now, too.
