Alexander Wang Collaborated With Kangol, And It’s Everything

An ’80s hip-hop dream come true

You guys, Alexander Wang just collaborated with Kangol—yes, the Kangol behind the iconic fuzzy bucket hat from the ’90s—and it’s pure magic.

While our fondest of memories of Kangol may be of that quintessential bucket hat, the brand’s core design is actually the newsboy-style Peebles cap—a style once a favorited by some of the biggest ‘80s rappers. Wang, inspired heavily by ‘80s hip-hop culture for his resort 2017 collection, reimagined the classic design in true Alexander Wang fashion. Available in two styles, black patent leather or leopard print nylon, the hats are stamped with a “Flipgirl” patch, showcasing the upside down pole dancer than makes an appearance throughout the collection. Both styles encapsulate the era in a modern, high-fashion way.

The designer told i-D of his admiration for hip-hop, saying, “I'm constantly influenced by its artists and its evolution and influence on the street. So, naturally revisiting my memories of Kangol and bringing it into our vocabulary and remixing its values was a fun experience."

The caps start at $180, so you can own some Wang for a fraction of the cost of a bag (and channel your favorite LL Cool J moment of all time). Both caps will be available soon at AlexanderWang.com, and we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for them.
