Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers Reunited For ‘Really?!?”
watch them shame a misogynist sportswriter
When Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers join together for anything, they have our full attention. And when the pair reunited on The Late Show for a segment called "Really?!?" (from their days on Saturday Night Live), they definitely didn't disappoint.
"Really?!?" was part of the "Weekend Update" sketch that Poehler and Meyers co-hosted on SNL, and with their recreation of the segment, they drew a heavy dose of nostalgic laughs from the audience. In their latest "Really?!?" segment, Poehler and Meyers addressed the sexist comment made by Sports Illustrated writer Andy Benoit in a tweet that read, "Not women's soccer......women's sports in general not worth watching." Yes, he really wrote that.
Poehler and Meyers have a field day pointing out all the reasons Benoit's tweet is not okay and not true, including Serena Williams' athletic prowess and the U.S. Women's Soccer Team exciting game against the Columbia Team. They also address media's role creating a greater gap in male vs. female sport broadcasting, pointing out that women's sports are generally played on channels that people don't frequently view, and may not even know about.
The pair do a fantastic job of humorously chiding Benoit for his comment, which was sexist and offensive, and they prove that sometimes the best way to showcase the ridiculousness of a situation is simply to laugh at it.
