Chanel Fall ’14 Show

10 things to know about the show.

by liza darwin

Karl Lagerfeld can make pretty much anything glamorous--denim dresses, hula hoops, even a rodeo--so when it came to Chanel's fall '14 runway show, the designer looked toward another unlikely source of inspiration. This time, it was the grocery store.

We know what you're thinking: what's the point of dressing up to go to the supermarket when you can wear sweats and a baseball cap? But it was precisely this idea that Lagerfeld twisted in his own unique way, converting lazy day staples like leggings, sneakers, and oversized jackets into seriously luxe pieces. Whether it's ripped cropped turtlenecks, shiny stretchy pants, and crazy-cool sneakers, leave to to Chanel to force us all to never think of a Diet Coke run the same way again.

It's impossible to condense everything that went down this morning at Grand Palais into a simple list, but in the spirit of grocery shopping (get it?), we're going to try.

Click through the 10 things you have to know about the Chanel show in the gallery, and watch the entire thing below!

Lagerfeld transformed the massive Grand Palais in Paris into his own supermarket. Even the food was stamped with the Chanel logo, like eau de Chanel and Jambon Cambon, and haute couture ketchup.

Knee-high sneakers are thing now, you guys.

Models wore neon green cat eyeliner...because even if you're in sneakers, you can still go big with your makeup, right?

Models carried high-end grocery baskets, suitcases, Chanel bags wrapped in plastic, and even metallic lunchboxes.

The show was stocked with the modeling A-list: Cara Delevingne, Joan Smalls, Edie Campbell, Binx, Joan Smalls....and fashion's newest favorite, Kendall Jenner. Yep, of those Jenners.

Hairstylist Sam McKnight twisted models' hair into dreadlocked tweed (!!) ponytails. Also, tracksuits!

Cara Delevingne closed the show, strutting hand-in-hand with Karl Lagerfeld.

Attendees got to raid the grocery store after the show, and it was pure madness. (Proof here.)

The front row may have included everyone from Rihanna to Keira Knightley, but the best part happened after the show--when Rihanna and Cara Delevingne went on a shopping cart joyride through the aisles. Because what else would you expect from these two!?

Is the breakaway trend of fall '14 sweater tops plus sweater pants? Celine, Acne, Marc Jacobs, and Chanel sure seem to think so.
