A full, minute-long trailer for the second season of Empire is finally here, and it packs as much drama as an entire season one episode. We see "ride-or-die" Cookie visiting Lucious in jail, shit-talking between Jamal and Hakeem, and basically every character conspiring to take over Empire Records. For good measure, there are scenes of Cookie strutting around in an envy-inducing Moschino blazer, with "#FreeLucious" concert footage thrown in there, too.
If that's not enough good news, co-creator Lee Daniels has confirmed a spinoff of the show, likely focusing on Cookie's life, pre-Empire Records. "Here Cookie is now, but how did she get to where she's at right now?" he said during the Television Critics Association summer press tour. "Let's go back and understand her mother, her sisters…Let's understand the makings of her." Season two of Empire premieres on Wednesday, September 23, but after watching this trailer it'll feel like a lifetime.
