The ‘Hairspray Live!’ Teaser Boasts a Star-Studded Cast

NBC just hit the jackpot with its broadcast of the summer Olympics, thanks to the escapades of Usain Bolt, Simone Biles, and other athletes who totally killed it in Rio. With the games wrapping up this weekend, one would think that the network would be in full panic mode, in search of its next sensation. Well, not NBC. The peacock network has the television event of the fall on its hands in Hairspray Live!, and it wants us to know it. 

WIth that said, it's with great pleasure that we bring you the hugely anticipated special's first teaser. While it's only 30 seconds, our first look at the upcoming telecast gives us our first peek at the star-studded cast. Newcomer Maddie Baillios stars as the iconic Tracy Turnblad, and she has some pretty impressive company. There's Harvey Fierstein as her mother Edna, Jennifer Hudson as Motormouth Maybelle, Ariana Grande as Penny Pingleton, and Kristin Chenoweth as the big bad Velma Von Tussle. Even Martin Short shows up as the de facto jester Wilbur Turnblad.
