When we think of summer, we like to pretend it’s all about day trips to the beach, showing off our favorite bathing suits and busting out those wide-brim hats. But the reality is, summer has a dark side. Running around the city, popping in and out of Ubers and catching the subway in near-triple-digit heat is bound to lead to a sweat storm (and not in that glowy, supermodel kind of way). When oil-blotting sheets and face mists aren’t cutting it anymore, these sly tricks help stop perspiration before it even starts. Take notes, because hot mess is a good look for no one.
Cut Back On The Caffeine
Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system and activates sweat glands, which can make you glisten more than usual. If you can't kick the caffeine altogether, cut back as much as possible. Trust us, your silk slip dress will thank you.
Be Strategic With Your Deodorant
Let's get real, our underarms are not the only place that feels the heat. If you're extra sweaty in certain areas (like your back, inner thighs) sweep on an antiperspirant to control it. However, don't get too crazy—we wouldn't recommend that you apply it to your face.
Dove, Advanced Care Restore Antiperspirant Deodorant, $5, available at Target.
Stop Eating Salty Snacks
When you consume large amounts of salt, your body does everything it can to get rid of the sodium—cue excessive sweating. Cut back on salting your food and limit your trips to the vending machine.
Use Witch Hazel As A Toner
Witch hazel is a natural anti-inflammatory and can be used to hinder sweat glands. This summer, swap your favorite toner for a witch hazel astringent. Fill a travel-size spray bottle for a refresher on the go.
Thayers, Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel With Aloe Vera, $13, available at Walmart.
Load Up On Antioxidants
One of the reasons your body insists on sweating is its attempt to get rid of toxins. Tomato juice and grapes are perfect for reducing sweat because they're both loaded with antioxidants and help cancel out the toxin levels in your body.
