Janet Hubert Aka Aunt Viv Goes Off On Will And Jada Pinkett Smith For Oscars Boycott
janet hubert is not down with that Oscars boycott.
It's been two decades since Janet Hubert was unceremoniously replaced as Aunt Vivian on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and she's been pissed off at Will Smith ever since, publicly blaming him for losing her job. That anger spilled over last night as Hubert took to her Facebook page to respond to Jada Pinkett Smith's Oscar boycott in a withering video that weirdly uses a Lichtenstein-esque pop art filter that lends it a bizarre quality. "I find it ironic that somebody who has made their living and has made millions and millions of dollars from the very people that you're talking about boycotting just because you didn't get a nomination, just because you didn't win?" she says. "That's not the way life works, baby." Hubert also mocked Pinkett Smith for placing so much importance on an awards show, when there are actual life-and-death issues she could be taking a stand against. "It just ain’t that deep,” she says.
Of course, Hubert also took the opportunity to take some shots at Will Smith, dissing his accent in Concussion, and calling him and his wife hypocrites for railing against the establishment they very much represent. "You ain't Barack and Michelle Obama, and y'all need to get over yourselves," she says. "You have a huge production company that you only produce your friends and your family and yourself. So you are a part of Hollywood. You are a part of the system that is unfair to other actors. So get real."
There is much more in the 4 minute-plus clip, so watch it below and decide for yourself if Hubert has a point, or if these are the misguided words of a bitter former employee.
