The New ‘Jumanji’ Trailer Is ‘Freaky Friday’ In The Jungle

In theaters on December 22

Our future President Dwayne Johnson doesn’t care if you didn’t like his Baywatch remake. He’s already moved on to his Jumanji remake, and so should you. The first trailer for the upcoming action-adventure comedy just dropped, and it’s a surprisingly clever update of the 1995 original that starred Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst. Instead of a magic board game that brings wild jungle animals roaring into suburbia, four mismatched high school students stumble on an old video game console and, after selecting their avatars, get sucked into the game.

And here’s the twist: Instead of meeting and fighting alongside Johnson’s Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Kevin Hart’s Moose Finbar, Karen Gillan’s Ruby Roundhouse, and Jack Black’s Professor Shelly Oberon, the teenagers find themselves inside their bodies. That sets up running gags like a skinny nerd suddenly having the body of The Rock, or the popular girl suddenly having the body of Black. It’s Freaky Friday meets, well, Jumanji, and we’re surprisingly here for it. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hits theaters on December 22. Watch the trailer above.
