Katy Perry Takes Flight In The Video For ‘Rise’

Just try not to feel empowered, we dare you.

No one does empowerment quite like Katy Perry. The candy-coated pop star wants us to be better, an MO that's given the visual treatment in the brand new video for "Rise," her Olympic anthem about fighting back, transforming, and ultimately uniting. In other words: It’s vintage Katy Perry.

Here, we see the singer tethered to a giant parachute as she trudges through remote landscapes trying to determine whether her giant accessory (expect to see parachutes all over the runways this coming fall) is friend or foe.

We don't want to spoil the video's climax, but let's just say that plummeting to her doom thanks to a faulty chute wouldn't be adhering to the song's motivational message, which Perry spoke about in a statement:

“Now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite,” the Grammy nominee said. “I know that together we can rise above the fear—in our country, and around the world. I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together.”

If being inspirational were an Olympic sport, Perry would get a gold medal. Watch the video for "Rise" above.
