Six years ago, it seemed like you couldn't go a day without seeing Kimora Lee Simmons' insignia on something—whether it was your TV screen (Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane), a shelf in your local bookstore (Fabulosity: What It Is and How to Get It), the drugstore perfume counter, or the, err, derrier of the person in front of you. But ever since she left Phat Fashions, which managed the '00s labels Baby Phat and Phat Farm, in 2010, we haven't seen much of Simmons. But that may all change, as the former model is releasing a new eponymous line (KLS Kimora Lee Simmons) for Pre-Fall 2015.
The idea for the collection began a year and a half ago, when Simmons noticed a void in luxury clothing that could fit her lifestyle, bringing her from a board meeting to a fashion week party. Filled with leather pencil dresses, high-waisted tailored trousers, mesh and silk dresses, and jacquard suits, the line is sexy, cool, and super luxe. Priced from $600 to $3500, KLS is nowhere near as accessible as Baby Phat was, but it is certainly more chic. "This is definitely catered to a woman who has a little spending power," she told Fashionista. "It's very classic and it's my take on what would be basic. Not exactly basic, but updated and upgraded basic."
