Madewell is following in the footsteps of its sister brand, J. Crew, and launching extended sizing.
The brand’s new fall collection will include denim in sizes 23 to 37, and knits, tops, and jackets up to size 3X. Basically, most of the cute basics the retailer typically stocks will now be available to accommodate a more inclusive range of shoppers—finally!
This is a do-over of sorts for Madewell. This past spring, it attempted to make its denim offerings more inclusive by offering sizes up to 20. Not only were jeans the only item that got the extended sizing treatment, but many shoppers complained that the items didn’t fit properly.
This time around, according to Fashionista, Madewell consulted with “third party fit experts” to make sure that the clothing is appealing and actually fits its customers. “This is part of our larger initiative to reinvent the standard of fit to reflect the real, diverse spectrum of the American customer,” the brand stated in a press release. Although J. Crew has a leg up by offering sizes up to 5X, this is a step in the right direction for Madewell.
The extended sizes are now available to purchase online now and will be rolling it out in stores slowly. According to WWD, the goal is to have the majority of the sizes available in-store by next year. Check out some of the campaign images ahead.
