Kristen Stewart + Michelle Williams Star In The First Trailer For ‘Certain Women’

Based on the short story collection “Both Ways Is the Only Way I Want It”

Certain Women represents everything we love about the fall movie season. Here is a small, artful film directed by Kelly Reichardt, a highly regarded director who values story above all else. Once again, she's enlisted her frequent muse, Michelle Williams, to star in a movie uniquely about a woman's plight. Williams—who plays a mother intent on building her dream home—is joined by Kristen Stewart and Laura Dern as women whose lives unexpectedly intersect.

The film's first trailer hints that Reichardt—whose films Meek’s Cutoff and Wendy and Lucy have emerged as touchstones of American independent cinema—has once again crafted something indelible. If there's a director working today who better captures the inward journeys of women in America, well, we've yet to be introduced. Certain Women was one of the most acclaimed offerings out of this year's Sundance, and we're thrilled to finally have our first look.

Certain Women comes out October 14 via IFC Films, but cinephiles looking to catch an American auteur at the height of her powers can head north, where it's scheduled to screen at next week's Toronto International Film Festival. Watch the trailer above.
