Milk Makeup just revealed its first-ever collaboration, tapping the legendary Wu-Tang Clan for a limited-edition line of lipsticks. Go big or go home, am I right?
While we love Milk's minimalism, this collection is anything but low-key—the eight lipsticks feature an elaborate dragon design. Product design director Kali Perez said, "We wanted to speak to Wu-Tang’s fascination with Shaolin Kung Fu culture in an unexpected way, so we chose to include a dragon on the barrel itself."
The lipsticks range from glittery to matte, offering a little something for everyone. The price point is a bit higher than Milk's usual—$55 per lip color, or $440 for the entire set—but, after swatching the products yesterday, we can attest that the pigmented vegan formula is worth the extra dollars.
For the campaign, RZA, of the Wu-Tang Clan, felt Teyana Taylor was the ideal face. She stars in the Whooden Collective-produced visuals, channeling her inner Wu Warrior on a rooftop as she practices Kung Fu. Milk Makeup co-founder Georgie Greville describes Taylor's warrior essence in the visuals: “Teyana is using Lip Color as a coat of armor. She’s a badass. She is exactly who she is. She’s unapologetic in every aspect of her life.”
The pairing of the makeup brand and iconic hip-hop group was not entirely surprising, given their shared NYC roots and previous working relationship—Wu-Tang Clan performed in the Milk Gallery back in 2012 during NYFW. Beyond these connections, RZA said he's excited about the collaboration's "Yin, or Feminine energy, that it invokes." He added, “Milk Makeup has been bold in creating beauty products with unique ingredients. This collab dives deeper into that realm and I’m sure will inspire the Wisdom Beauty and Strength of today’s Modern Warriors.”
