Despite its spitfire approach to releasing new movies, Netflix still hasn’t had much luck come awards season. The holy grail for the streaming service is yet to be recognized as a prestige movie studio that can attract top-tier talent. And after its rival Amazon scooped up two Oscars for Manchester By the Sea, the pressure is on for Netflix to have its own horse in the Oscar race. Well, their best bet this year is Mudbound, an epic American drama whose trailer just dropped today.

Directed by Dee Rees (Pariah, Bessie), Mudbound tells a sweeping story of two families during the during the Jim Crow era after WWII, who are adversaries despite having to share the same farmland. That’s because one of them is black, and the other white. The story kicks into gear when a soldier from each family returns home from the war and strike up a friendship, much to the dismay of their families. The movie features an all-star cast including Jason Clarke, Carey Mulligan, Garrett Hedlund, and Mary J. Blige. Mudbound premiered to ecstatic raves at the Sundance Film Festival and will be playing at the Toronto Film Festival, before its upcoming Oscar push. Watch the trailer, above.
