Rihanna Raps On N.E.R.D.’s First New Song In Three Years

“What a minute!”

by Hayden Manders

The first comment on N.E.R.D.'s new music video with Rihanna reads, "10 seconds in and my ass has disappeared from twerking too damn hard." Sigh. Finally, some good news.

Rihanna flexes her rap muscles over N.E.R.D.'s instantly iconic production, that features minimal and bass-heavy beats peppered with some light pings. "Lemon" marks the first new material from the trio—Pharrell, Chad Hugo, and Shay Hayley—since it contributed to the 2014 SpongeBob Movie soundtrack. Their last proper album, Nothing, came out seven years ago. Pharrell teased the new project back in 2015. Now, the first installment is here, and it's a damn good booty shaker.

"The truth will set you free," Pharrell says in the beginning of the song, "but first it'll piss you off." What better way to deal with that reality than by letting loose to this? Grab a lemon and pull up. "This beat tastes like lunch," for real.
