Say Hello To Netflix’s Newest Redhead In The ‘Anne’ Trailer

Just don’t call her Carrots

There's a new redhead in town, and her name is Anne. Netflix announced the arrival of their latest ginger in a just released promo, comparing her to the streaming giant's formidable roster of redheads that also includes Orange Is the New Black's Red, Stranger Things' Barb, and, of course, Kimmy Schmidt. The freshman of the bunch is the heroine in Netflix's hotly anticipated Anne of Green Gables update, simply titled Anne.

For those of you unfamiliar with L.M. Montgomery's beloved children's novel on which the show is based, it chronicles the adventures of a plucky young orphan who arrives in a pastoral Canadian town to wreak havoc on anyone who decides to call her Carrots, as we see in the trailer. Or, as Netflix puts it, Anne will explore “timeless and topical issues including themes of identity, feminism, bullying, and prejudice.” That works too.

The pig-tailed heroine is played by newcomer Amybeth McNulty, who reportedly beat out 1,800 other young actresses for the role. One look at the promising first teaser, and it's easy to see why. Anne begins streaming on Netflix on May 12. Watch the brand-new trailer above.
