Jennifer Lawrence Goes Atomic Blonde In The ‘Red Sparrow’ Trailer

While Jennifer Lawrence prepares for the release of her most divisive project, mother!, her next film has just been introduced to the world. It’s called Red Sparrow, and it’s a lot more of what you’d expect from the world’s biggest movie star. A little bit The Americans, a little bit Atomic Blonde, Lawrence plays Dominika Egorova, a ballerina who suffers a career-ending injury and turns to Russia’s spy program for salvation. There she is trained by a very stern-looking Charlotte Rampling to use her sexuality to seduce her targets and then kill them. It’s all good until she meets a hunky CIA agent in the form of Joel Edgerton, who convinces her, at least for a while, that she might want to consider changing sides. We don’t see much in this short teaser, but it ends with Lawrence donning a platinum wig a la Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde.

It’s unclear if this is a pure action movie, like Theron’s recent spy caper was, as we don’t get to see Lawrence kick any actual ass (or speak, for that matter). But what we do know is that Red Sparrow was directed Francis Lawrence, who also helmed the last three Hunger Games movies, so if there’s anyone who knows how to stage an action sequence, it’s him. Red Sparrow doesn’t hit theaters until March, so be patient and check out the trailer, above.
