Do you think you were a mermaid in a past life? You're not alone. Linda Rodin, Rodin founder and a self-professed "Pisces with an affinity for the sea," does—a belief that's singlehandedly responsible for the skin-care and makeup brand's new Mermaid Collection.
For the five-piece limited-edition collection, the brand, responsible for our favorite oils ever, teamed up with artist and Estée Lauder's (the parent company of Rodin) creative director, Donald Robertson, to create the packaging and the graphics for the products that are, according to the artist, "inspired by magical things we find in murky depths" and feature stunning watercolor drawings of long-haired sea dwellers. The result? "Next-wave illuminators [that] take your 'no makeup' makeup look to a radiant new dimension," and include a body oil (a new formula that showcases multicolored layers, which were created using essential oils, sea kelp, and sambac, and are reminiscent of a shore's skyline), an illuminating powder and liquid, a kabuki brush, and a conditioning lip oil that doubles as a gloss or cheek tint.
The star of the line is the powder compact that adds a glowing shimmer to the cheekbones and collarbones, and features a masterful drawing of a mystical sea creature in a sea of shells. Fun fact: When Robertson was first tasked with the design, he wanted to create a flat portrait of a mermaid but after learning about the product’s purpose—to slip on the skin with a silky feel and no powder residue—had to rethink the design to be layered; after seeing the beautiful result, he now wants all the powdered products he’s working on to have raised designs.
While we typically steer clear of the festival-favorited mermaid-inspired collection, this is one that we can't wait to deep dive into. See the line of illuminators in the slideshow, below, and shop it now.
