The Veronicas And Ruby Rose Tackle Hard Relationship Issues In The New “On Your Side” Video

So intense

Most people spend their vacations sipping white wine on the beach, curling up with a good book, or exploring ancient cities armed with nothing but a camera and a thirst for adventure. Not Ruby Rose. The Aussie actress is currently on hiatus from her hit show Orange is The New Black, but rather than sleep in and let the days waste away, she decided to star in and direct a music video with none other than her girlfriend.

The cut comes courtesy of The Veronicas, who enlisted Rose to helm the video for their brand new single "On Your Side." In it, Rose and SO Jessica Origliasso—her twin sister Lisa makes up the other half of the Australian pop rockers—star as two women embroiled in a passionate relationship that falls victim to some pretty nefarious roadblocks.

“When I first heard the song, I was drawn to the lyrics. Some songs tell the first chapter of a story; others only tell the last, but here, I was listening to a full narrative of someone’s sincere experience with love,” Rose said about her work. “It stood out to me, and like any great narrative, [I] wanted to know what was going to happen next… The only thing is I threw out the original concept for the [video] the night before shooting, when I realized how many times they had used cars in previous videos. I wrote the treatment for what stands as the video today as an 11th hour revision.”

As for The Veronicas, well, their decision to bring Rose on board felt like a given. “Lisa and I have always been drawn to unconventional and honest storytelling through our music,” Jessica explained. “Ruby brought this to the forefront in our video for ‘On Your Side.' The video shares a story between Ruby’s character and mine. It’s a true-to-life look at the passion and protection of two people falling in love and, ultimately, a love that cannot be broken.”
