The ‘Sausage Party’ Trailer Will Make You Rethink How You Treat Your Food

A kitchen nightmare

by Ben Barna

Sausage Party is the rare animated movie that's earned a hard R rating. But watching the new red band trailer for the upcoming flick, you get the sense that it's not so much for the swearing and sex jokes—although there are plenty of those—and more for the graphic slaughtering of food. The basic premise behind the film is that a group of groceries, fronted by Seth Rogen's Frank and Kristen Wiig's Brenda, discover what really happens once humans take them home from the supermarket. And what really happens is they're chopped, boiled, sizzled, chewed, and then swallowed. It all looks incredibly painful, horrific, and yes, hilarious.

Sausage Party was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, which means their usual cast of collaborators are lending their voices. That includes Jonah Hill, James Franco, Danny McBride, Paul Rudd, Michael Cera, Bill Hader, and more. The movie had its premiere at SXSW earlier this year, and audiences flipped (pun intended) for it, so we're expecting big things. Sausage Party opens on August 12. And parents? Leave the kids at home.
