If anyone is going to break the internet today, it's Sia: Her just-launched video for "Elastic Heart" features a dirt-covered Shia LaBeouf wearing nude undies in a cage, dance-fighting with 12-year-old Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler. She's also wearing a nude leotard, so if you squint they both look kind of naked. Considering Ziegler is a child, this set up has the potential to be super problematic.
However, any undercurrents of sexuality are removed from "Elastic Heart" as the admittedly vague narrative slowly emerges: LaBeouf is trapped in this enormous bird cage thing and Ziegler is…a demon? Possessed in some way? Trapped in there with him? Ziegler wears what's clearly a Sia wig, so we know that she's representing the musician. Past that, though, is unclear.
Regardless of the greater metaphorical significance, it's surprisingly enjoyable to watch a semi-naked Shia participate in artistic choreography with a professional dancer who is approximately one third his age. She is just so graceful and he is just trying to so hard. However, his anguish-filled facial expressions probably deserve an A+ from someone.
