song premiere: holychild’s ‘money all around’

introducing brat pop

Most people might run from the word "brat," but Louie Diller and Liz Nistico are embracing it. As the L.A.-based electro-pop duo Holychild, Diller and Nistico make what they call Brat Pop, and have even named their upcoming debut album in honor of the genre. The Shape of Brat Pop to Come, out June 2 on Glassnote Records, promises to be a maelstrom of hyperactive production, stadium-sized beats, and Nistico's soaring, feminine vocals.

We're premiering the second single off the LP, “Money All Around"—Apple snatched up the first single for its first Apple Watch commercial—a song that despite its summer-jam vibe, deals with some pretty heady themes. “'Money All Around' pretty much sums up all the themes in the album," Nistico says. "It's about our culture's obsession with fame, bodies, and money, and how that affects personal relationships. I feel like I'm always second-guessing my interactions with other people. Maybe it's overthinking, but I'm always trying to figure out which transactions are natural, true, honest, genuine, and which are motivated by the other person's ulterior motives or even mine.”

You can listen to it below.
