Listen To St. Vincent’s First Track In Two Years

New song, new sound, “New York”

St. Vincent has not released a song in about two years. Therefore, it is extremely exciting that today, we can no longer say that. The avant-pop musician has a brand-new track out, called simply “New York.” Surprisingly, the track is devoid of Annie Clark’s signature sound, her guitar. Over the years, the musician has established herself as one of the most dynamic guitarists alive, so it’s somewhat jarring to hear her first single in two years completely devoid of it. In its place are strings and piano, and the effect is gorgeous.

The song, which represents her first official release since 2015’s “Teenage Talk,” comes on the heels of a flurry of activity from the St. Vincent camp. The singer recently announced her Fear the Future Tour, which will kick off this fall. The last stop will be in Brooklyn, New York, where this song will surely be the centerpiece of the set. St. Vincent’s last album was her 2014 self-titled masterpiece, and while she still has yet to announce a follow-up, both the tour and now this track indicate that a new St. Vincent album is imminent. Yay for us.
