Watch Uni’s “Adult Video,” In All Its Wild, Disturbing Glory

The new video, premiering here, is a crazy, trippy experience

When a band's official bio has an origin story involving details like how it's comprised of "the cigarette butts, the used condoms, the melted vinyl and the headlines of a million millennial mornings... churned in a blender like primordial ooze..." And how then, "out of that psychotropic smoothie straw test tube crawled a hermaphrodite child who laughed in the face of modernity." Well, you know that when said band releases a new video, it's going to be a wild, trippy ride into some truly colorfully perverse minds. And we are very here for it.

The band, of course, is Uni, made up of Kemp Muhl ("the brain of Uni!"), Nico Fuzz ("the heart of Uni!"), and David Strange ("the balls of Uni!"), and the new video, premiering on NYLON below, is "Adult Video." The whole idea behind it was, in the words of Kemp who directed it, "to just do something really wacky and disturbing and make it kind of glamorous in a funny way." Mission accomplished.

Over the phone recently, Muhl explained to me that her inspirations include camp icons like John Waters and that her next goal is to work on a rock opera with Uni. (She's a super-fan of Ken Russell's 1970s film, Tommy, from the rock opera by The Who.) Muhl also says, when asked about the over-the-top aesthetic, that she feels "like artists should never take themselves too seriously." She adds, "The quote I really like is, 'Art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed.'"

Prepare to be both comforted and disturbed in the best possible way, by watching "Adult Video," below.
