nylon x vanessa hudgens

meet our february cover star!

by nylon

If 2013 was when Vanessa Hudgens went from Disney queen to a bleached-hair, gun-totting coed in Spring Breakers, then 2014 will go down as the year she took on her most serious and intense onscreen role yet--and proved to the world that she's not just a good girl-gone-bad. And it starts with the release of her new movie Gimme Shelter, in which she chopped off her hair and gained weight to play a runaway teen...and we've documented it all in the February issue of NYLON.

In it, our latest cover star reveals herself as a far cry from the Hollywood stereotype; NYLON editor Ashley Baker describes Hudgens as a "juice-swilling, hippy-dippy greens-eater," who is taking everything--the fame, the challenging roles, the haters--in stride. While the issue doesn't officially hit newsstands until January 29, we've got a sneak peek (plus exclusive outtakes) right here.

On Her Recent Transformations Onscreen:

"I don't think it's 'good girl gone bad.' I think it's more 'girl growing into a woman and being passionate and taking choices.' I have so much work to do, and I think I will always feel that way."

On Her Gimme Shelter Role:

"It was the first time I really stepped out of my control zone, physically and material-wise. I'm a little afraid of myself when I watch it."

On What's Ahead:

"I know God's plan for me is bigger than anything I could ever plan for myself. It allows me to not worry about the future or what other people think and just to be present and enjoy and try to shine as much as I can."
