This season, during Bridal Fashion Week, "I do" got a redo: Gone are the days of identically misfitted ball gowns with the prom-favorite sweetheart neckline, embroidered rosettes, and color swatches whose spectrum of acceptability ended at the ivory and cream shades. Instead, the runways were filled with dresses boasting unconventional colors, edgy details, and unorthodox silhouettes. It seems like almost every wedding designer had the fashion-forward bride on their minds when designing the Spring/Summer 2017 collection—and we couldn't be more excited about that.
While some of these looks are not intended strictly as wedding wear, they handsomely fulfill the bridal requirements, with an added bonus of 3-D appliqués (Mira Zwillinger), sexy cutouts showing subtle flashes of skin (HOUGHTON), and seriously sheer fabrics (Delphine Manivet, Vera Wang).
For the bride who doesn’t want to wear white, there is now a color wheel of gowns ranging from various shades of blush (Ines Di Santo) to celadon green (Jenny Packham) and reaching all the way to black (Galia Lahav). For the girl who doesn't want to stray too far off the beaten path, but still wants a touch of something-something on her big day, designers like Marchesa, Monique Lhuillier, and Reem Acra approached the nontraditional looks with a timeless aesthetic in mind. The trend we're most obsessed with this season: bomber-like jackets thrown over romantic sheath gowns (Theia, Oscar de la Renta), perfect for winter nuptials.
From slinky silhouettes (Christian Siriano) and short frocks (Temperley London) to a lace pantsuit (Naeem Khan) and a luxe bodice featuring 14-karat gold hand-painted goose and ostrich feathers (Kelly Faetanini), ahead are the 18 coolest wedding looks we've seen at Bridal Fashion Week.
