Lipstick Vs. Ice Cream: The Ultimate Summer Beauty Showdown
Bring on the toppings!
As far as summertime is concerned, there are a lot of natural elements working against you like the sun, wind, humidity, and sweat—your lipstick shouldn't be one of them. Ice cream has become a major (and most enjoyable) part of cooling down during the warmer months, but often at the cost of cutting out other things so it's less of a mess to deal with. To be specific, lip products are to be used sparingly before or after consumption, never during. But if you're anything like us, you want to have your ice cream and lipstick too.
Once again, we literally put our lips to the test and faced off in an epic battle of the cones. Thanksgiving was all about the turkey, but ice cream is a seasonal treat that should never be denied. (Unless you suffer from lactose intolerance or something.)
Our friends at OddFellows Ice Cream Co. were kind enough to provide us with a whirlwind of their mind-blowing ice cream flavors to pair with news shades from some of our favorite lipstick collections. Now you can confidently go on that ice cream date you've been dreaming about without having to stress about reapplying when potential bae isn't looking.
Feel free to thanks us later, we know you will. Find out the results in the tasty slideshow, below.
Sprinkles with Sprinkles on Jenna Igneri, digital fashion market assistant
Although I thought the color and texture of this lipstick was great, it didn't hold up too well against the ice cream and was almost completely gone by the time I finished (erm, devoured) my cone. I'll have to save this color for food-free moments.

Thai Iced Tea with Toasted Coconut on Keryce Chelsi Henry, print associate editor
I was completely prepared for this to be smeared all over my face after I ate the
ice
cream
, considering it's so creamy. Surprisingly, it didn't budge. What type of sorcery was used to make this perfect creation of a
lipstick
? Not that I'm complaining...

Raspberry Pink Peppercorn on Yasmeen Gharnit, digital editor
Let me start by saying that 'Junkie' is easily one of the coolest shades I've ever seen. Up close, it pretty much looks like a shiny, dark glittery representation of the Statue of Liberty. Since it's a pearlized formula and ultra hydrating, it does rub off quite easily when you accidentally run your hand across your lips or try to blot the shade with a napkin. Somehow, whether it was the way I ate ice cream or not, the shade held up pretty well. It definitely needed a refresher after, though.
Urban Decay, Vice in 'Junkie,' $17, available at Sephora.
Olive Oil & Strawberry on Sydney Gore, digital editorial assistant
This was my first time wearing a nude lip, but women of color have been raving about this shade from MDM Flow so I had to give it a try. The moment I spread it on my lips, it instantly stuck and not a drop moved out of place when making contact with the perfectly scooped ice cream. This liquid matte can hold up against pretty much anything, so I highly recommend investing in a tube.

Buttermilk Honey Blueberry on Katherine Martinez, director of e-commerce
I got pretty aggressive and borderline made out with my blueberry ice cream (it was AMAZING) and really put this gloss to the test! I ended up with a dark lip line remaining which I could totally play off as channelling '90s West Coast style makeup. Not mad at it.

Matcha Crunch with Cookie Crumbs on Liz Riccardi, digital design director
This held up very well! I'm not a huge lipstick wearer because I feel like my ChapStick addiction and constant reapplication tends to mess with even the most careful lipstick job, and I snack all day long (I wish on this ice cream!!). I had this on all morning as well so the fact that it was still looking good and staying put was impressive.

Saffron Passionfruit on Austen Tosone, print editorial assistant
One of my biggest worries with bright-colored
lipsticks
is that they will smudge off when I try to do normal human things like talk or eat. This bright orange shade held up really well as I ate my saffron
ice
cream
. It felt smooth and creamy when I put it on so I was worried it wouldn't mesh well against
ice
cream
, but after I ate, it still looked pretty good.
