Yes, You Should Have More Than One Type Of Vibrator

All vibrators are not created equal

I've never been against using vibrators, per se, but I have thought that I didn't really need them. My thinking was: I'd gone a very long time without them, and I'd gotten along just fine. Well, I've changed my mind completely. It's not that sex and masturbation without them is bad at all, but I've learned, after trying a few different types of vibrators, that they add something that I didn't know I needed.

What led to my change of heart, you ask? I tested out five different vibrators from LELO, using them when I was by myself and with my girlfriend, and I noticed a huge difference. It's not just that I found a difference between using and not-using a vibrator, I also noticed—thanks to my Very Professional Research™—a huge change when I used each kind of vibrator.

In other words: Hi, I'm a vibrator expert now. Well, not really, but I could definitely guide you in the right direction if you're not sure exactly what vibrator might work for you. Below, I tried out five toys from LELO's offerings and give you my honest results, so you can go shopping for your next vibrator—or vibrators—with ease.

HULA Beads

Many of LELO's couples toys are meant to be used when one person in the pairing has a penis and the other has a vagina, but, there were also a couple options that my girlfriend and I could use. We opted for the HULA Beads, which has a remote control that one person operates while the other is using it.

Rather than simply vibrating, this toy actually moves in circles once it's inside of you, which makes it the best overachiever I've ever come in contact with. Using the remote, the person in control can make vibrations harder, softer, faster, slower—whatever. There are buttons on the remote, but you can also control the intensity with swishing and flicking motions of the hands. Though I'd say the most important part of a relationship is feeling like equals, it was honestly really hot to have control withheld for a little while.

All I wish is that it were a bit more discreet. The toy makes a bit too much noise to be used anywhere other than in the bedroom with music on, so be wary of that if you're looking for something more low-key.

SONA

I've had really long, really hard, really exhausting orgasms before, but I can honestly say that I haven't had one as tiring and all-encompassing as what the SONA is capable of giving. I say this in the best way possible: I can only use this once, for a short period of time, on a low-ish setting.

The SONA offers an incredibly centralized vibration right to the clitoris, which is meant to be lined up with the opening at the top of the device. This was the first of LELO's offerings that I picked up to try, and I was only able to last a couple of minutes on the lowest setting. And there was little foreplay involved. I was actually in awe of the result, and my girlfriend laughed at my inability to last any longer... until she tried it herself.

While the orgasm that the SONA gives is very, very good, it's not one that I'd prefer every day. Sometimes I want to last longer! If you're in a chiller mood and don't want your body to be completely taken over, I'd try something with lower settings.

GIGI 2

These products are nothing if not mindfully designed. The GIGI 2 is angled just so to hit your G-spot, which is just as real as the female orgasm (what a concept!). My girlfriend and I both used this vibrator with the same amazing effect: It seemed like it knew just where to go, and delivered the most vibrations exactly where they needed to be. It doesn't hurt that the entire thing vibrates, too.

This vibrator pretty much knows your angles better than you do, so, even if you're a bit unsure of how to approach this elusive spot, GIGI will guide you there. I can't say I've had trouble with this, but I was shocked at just how quickly the flattened head hit where it was supposed to, so it should be easy for anyone to figure out.

The GIGI can also be turned over to be used as a clitoral massager, and while it's still good that way, the effects pale in comparison to what it does for the G-spot.

SORAYA

Rabbits have always been everyone's favorite double-duty vibrator, giving you penetrative pleasure while still paying attention to your clit, but I'm embarrassed to admit that I'd never used one before LELO sent me this one. And, after testing SORAYA out, I completely understand why Charlotte all but abandoned her boyfriend for a vibrator on Sex and the City. This product makes you feel taken care of. This is the equivalent of being asked exactly what you want, and being given it.

Not only that, but the design of this piece is so nice that I wouldn't be embarrassed to have it sitting out as a decoration (although, to save me from questioning, I'd put it away before family came to visit).

SIRI 2

The SIRI 2 takes the idea of "mood music" to a whole new level. As you might guess from its name, this vibrator takes cues from music or ambient noises, which it then moves in tune to. Whether you want it to respond to your own playlist or even the noises you're making, the SIRI 2 changes rhythm and intensity based on the beat and the volume of what it hears.

Living with roommates, I usually have to turn on some sort of playlist to cover up any noise that might be made in my room, whether I'm using a vibrator or not, so this was the perfect toy to use at my place.

I found that the SIRI 2 worked best when the music was loud and upbeat, and started loving bass-filled music a whole lot more, because it made the vibrations stronger. But, if you're into softer, slower music, be prepared for a slow, slow burn. I had to skip those songs as time went on, FYI.

After a little experimentation, I've definitely figured out that I was wrong when it came to not needing to integrate vibrators into sex and masturbation, and I got why everyone has been talking them up to me for so long. I'd definitely recommend starting a collection, too: Each piece brings with it a totally unique experience.
