The New Hello Kitty x Dr. Martens Drop Is All About The Platform Sole

The two iconic brands are at it again

by Morgan C. Mullings

To celebrate their 60th anniversary, both Sanrio's Hello Kitty and Dr. Martens collaborated on a Harajuku-inspired collection. The three styles include a special version of Dr. Martens' highly coveted Jadon boot, 1461 patent shoes, and a pair of vegan sandals. By combining Hello Kitty's iconic imagery and the Docs signature black-and-yellow color palette, these shoes are instantly recognizable.

Dr. Martens and Hello Kitty last collaborated in 2010 for the 50th anniversary of Sanrio's beloved character and the footwear brand's 1460 shoe. The partnership focused more on prints and styles associated with Hello Kitty, resulting in a Mary Jane shoe and a multicolored 1460 boot. But this year, the two are going a slightly darker route.

Of course, the footwear boasts all of the Sanrio motifs we've come to know and love — Hello Kitty's tiny face, her red bow, and logo font — which add a pop of fun to the black leather footwear. On the inside of each pair, there's a commemorative red insole acknowledging the brands' 60 years. In the spirit of Japan's Harajuku style, each shoe has a thick platform, as well as heart-shaped eyelets and plenty of quirky, cute graphics.
