Everything You Need To Know About ‘Cruel Summer’ Season 2

The new cast teased details about the latest installment at screening events across the country.

Cruel Summer fans have been eagerly anticipating new episodes of the nostalgic thriller since the season one finale, and thankfully, the wait is officially over. While the first installment of Cruel Summer took place across three summers in the 1990s — keeping viewers on their toes while following the story of a girl who went missing while a classmate seemingly took over her life — season two is headed in a totally new direction. With an entirely different cast and a brand new premise, Cruel Summer is already full of twists and turns.

Freeform celebrated the premiere of season two with screening events all across the country. Fans in Atlanta, Austin, Chicago and Los Angeles were able to catch the first episode and learn more about what’s to come through exciting panels with the new cast. Here are some of the details fans should know about what’s in store for Cruel Summer.

‘Cruel Summer’ Is An Anthology Series

If you still have questions about the unsolved mysteries in season one, you’ll have to use your imagination. From here on out, Cruel Summer will feature the dramatic storylines of a new cast each season.

Season 2 Takes Place In 1999 and 2000

Great news for anyone who loves nostalgia content: Cruel Summer is throwing it back to 1999 and 2000 for season two. In its signature time jump style, scenes will bounce between summer 1999, winter 1999, and summer 2000 to give viewers the full picture.

It All Goes Down In The Pacific Northwest

Season two is set in an “idyllic waterfront town” in the Pacific Northwest. It seems picture perfect, but there are definitely plenty of secrets to be uncovered.

The Friendship Dynamics Will Get Intense

Fans were instantly hooked on the intense (and unusual) relationship dynamics in season one, and that’s one thing that’s definitely not changing for season two, where the rise and fall of a high-stakes friendship takes center stage. Megan Landry (Sadie Stanley) is a super-smart computer coder whose life turns around when she meets Isabella (Lexi Underwood), an enigmatic exchange student who stays with the Landry family. Isabella helps Megan open her eyes to discover a world beyond their small town, and absolutely everything changes quickly thereafter.

Episodes Will Drop Weekly

Cruel Summer season two officially kicked off on Freeform on June 5, with two new episodes available to watch the next day on Hulu. New episodes are available on Freeform on Mondays at 10 p.m., and the next day on Hulu.
