SassyBlack’s New Song Was Worth The Wait

Pull up

by Sydney Gore

SassyBlack is a woman of many names. Prior to her solo project, Catherine "Cat" Harris-White was one-half of the R&B-hip-hop duo TheeSatisfaction. Now, the Seattle-based singer-songwriter and producer is off doing her own soul-searching the best way she knows how—through music. Today, we're premiering her brand-new single, “I'll Wait For You.”

If you find it difficult to categorize SassyBlack's music, that means she's doing it right. This song, in particular, is a mix of psychedelic, electronic, soul, and jazz blended up into one, pure sound bite. The title of the track is pretty self-explanatory, but SassyBlack further elaborates on the deeper meaning behind the tune:

Sometimes you fall for someone in an unbalanced fashion, HARD. You love them, but you can't figure out how to deal with how indecisive they are about anything from their career to friends and family to your relationship, but you believe in it so you wait. You give them space, but when you come back to your love, it's fresh and sexy and loving. It all revolves around love and that expression of ultimate pleasure. It always comes back to being present, passionate, and patient.

SassyBlack’s sophomore album, New Black Swing, is due out on June 23. Stream the single in full, below.
